Getting started
Do I need an account?
No. Civetta starts you as a guest, so you can subscribe and listen right away. Sign in with your email when you want your shows on another iPhone or iPad, or to keep them if you change phones.
How do I sign in?
- Open Settings, then Account.
- Tap Create Account or Sign In, and enter your email.
- Enter the 6-digit code we email you. On iPhone, the keyboard offers the code from Mail.
There is no password. A new email address makes a new account, and the podcasts you added as a guest move into it. A code works for 10 minutes.
The code email did not arrive.
Look in your spam or junk folder for a message from no-reply@civettaapp.com. Check the address you typed, then tap Send a New Code. If it still does not arrive, email us.
How do I move my shows from another app?
- In your old app, export your subscriptions as an OPML file.
- In Civetta, open Settings, then Subscriptions, and tap Import.
- Choose the OPML file.
On an empty library, Subscriptions also offers Import from Another App. You can export your shows as OPML from the same place.
Listening
What do Trim Silence and Voice Boost do?
Trim Silence plays the quiet gaps faster, so an episode takes less time without voices sounding sped up. Voice Boost evens out the volume of quiet and loud speakers. Turn them on in the player's speed menu, or for one show in that show's settings. Insights in Settings shows how much time Trim Silence saved.
Where do new episodes go?
By default, to the Inbox. In a show's settings, Send To can put them at the top or end of Up Next, or straight into the archive. Notify Me sends a notification when a new episode comes out.
How does the sleep timer work?
In the player, tap the moon. Choose a number of minutes or the end of the episode. A countdown shows on the Lock Screen.
Downloads
How do automatic downloads work?
In a show's settings, turn on auto-download. About once an hour, Civetta downloads that show's newest episode. Settings, then Downloads, sets whether to use cellular data, how many episodes to keep per show, and when to delete played ones.
Why did a download stop or fail?
Check that you have a connection and enough free storage. If you turned off cellular downloads, connect to Wi-Fi. Then tap Download again.
Sync and account
What syncs between devices?
Subscriptions, played state and progress, Up Next, the Inbox, playlists, stars, bookmarks, tags and show settings. Downloads stay on each device.
Civetta says it can't reach the server.
Check your connection and tap Try Again. Downloaded episodes still play without a connection.
How do I delete my account?
Open Settings, then Account, and tap Delete Account. This deletes your account and everything stored with it from our servers. You can also email us to ask.
Availability
Where can I get Civetta?
Civetta is in beta. It is coming to the App Store for iPhone and iPad.
Is there an Android version?
Not yet. Civetta is for iPhone and iPad only for now.
